1960 — Freedom of the press rally in Dwinelle Plaza at UC Berkeley
I found this image among my earliest photographs of student activity at UC Berkeley, labelled 1960 "freedom of the press rally." I know that in 1960 freedom of the press did not exist for the student newspaper, The Daily Californian. It was not until 1971 that the Daily Cal became truly independent of the administration and the Regents, having formed an independent corporation responsible for content and production.
